Institution: Massachusetts Institute of Technology Requirement: MIT selected Forest City as the developer of University Park in a national competition to create a mixed-use research park that would foster technology transfer, enhance the value of its endowment investments and create a dynamic 24-hour live/work environment which would revitalize the surrounding neighborhood. Solution: Forest City established and secured permits for an award winning Master Plan which emphasized flexibility and long-term quality in programming, planning and constructing 16 buildings and three parking structures over 27 acres. Forest City structured a long-term ground lease and development agreement with MIT. Forest City then designed, developed, owns and operates the nation’s premier bioscience research campus, effectively integrated with residential, retail and hotel uses in the heart of the bioscience cluster of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
