BOSTONForest City Enterprises’ (NYSE: FCEA) (NYSE: FCEB) employees will spend a work day cleaning up Carson Beach in South Boston. The Boston-based employees are joining nearly 1,000 Forest City associates across the United States participating in the company’s first nationwide volunteer day.

On September 10, 2004, Forest City associates in 22 cities will volunteer in the communities they serve, lending a helping hand to local non-profit groups and agencies.  To demonstrate its commitment to community involvement and betterment, Forest City created Community Day, an initiative where all employees are given the opportunity to volunteer their time and skills to local organizations. Projects include painting at schools and children’s agencies, delivering meals to the elderly and cleaning up beaches and waterfronts.

Forest City believes in building value for the communities where we work and live,” said Charles A. Ratner, president and chief executive officer of Forest City Enterprises. “We strongly encourage all of our associates to become engaged in those communities, and we hope that by volunteering, Forest City is able to make a real difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors.”

More than 50 Forest City employees have volunteered for the Boston Harbor Association to help clean up the shores of Carson Beach on William J. Day Boulevard in South Boston. The Boston Harbor Association’s partnership with a variety of community groups has resulted in needed restoration of Boston Harbor beaches, including new beach sand, new and restored bathhouses, benches, shade shelters, body and foot showers, walkways, landscaping and much more.

Forest City is very involved in community organizations in both Greater Boston and Cambridge. Working with the Boston Harbor Association offers us an opportunity to further volunteer efforts within the city of Boston, while championing a cause that is very important to its residents,” said Gayle Farris, president of Forest City Commercial Group - Boston. “We want to provide the residents of South Boston with a clean beach and picnic area to enjoy while continuing Forest City’s efforts as an active and helpful corporate neighbor in Boston.
